Or, as many mats as possible. Thanks to Aaron and Cynthia of CrossFit South Bay, Santa brought us 100 mats before we even got into a box. They’ve been piled into my garage the last month waiting for a home. With any luck we’ll be moving these suckers into our new box this afternoon.

Having encountered these mats just a month ago, I’m dreading dragging these 4′x4′ heavy rubber mats from my garage to the truck to the box. So, how does a CrossFitter attack a problem like this? Easy. Turn it into a WOD. 100 mats, 4 people= 50 mats per pair. So, if I think of it as 21-15-9, with a few for warm up, I’m golden. It may take longer than Fran, but I can wrap my head around it!

In my last year as a coach, I’ve seen many people grow incredibly in their physical strength, but also in their mental will as well. Newbies usually walk into the gym with eyes glued to the whiteboard, searching for the posted WOD. They fixate on the numbers, their eyes widen, and their shoulders slump when they realize what is in store for the day.

By the end of their second month, though, they walk in, still searching for the posted WOD, but with an twinkle in their eyes. It’s a mix of curiosity and excitement. Their shoulders are pulled back–poised– and ready for the challenge. This is the change that I am most excited to see. It’s the mental victory of knowing that they will finish any and every WOD, regardless of difficulty.

This resolve then carries over to their every day lives. No challenge is insurmountable, no problem too daunting, and no task left unfinished. 3-2-1-Go!
