Well, for a change, I’ll let you guys write this post for me, since we’re taking a field trip today to Seafood Empress in Gardena for a little dim sum foraging.  One of the most difficult cuisines to Paleo, dim sum boasts sumptuous delicacies and delectable treats such as dumplings, siu mai, bbq pork buns, and even chicken feet (paleo!).

The bulk of the food is wrapped in some sort of rice or tapioca flour concoction, full of sugar, or fried, but it is possible to order a side of chinese broccoli (sans oyster sauce) and just stick to the steamed spare ribs or pick the goodies out of the rice wrapping.  Or just go on a cheat meal!  Here’s a little about the history of dim sum from Wikipedia:

Dim Sum is usually linked with the older tradition of Yum Cha (drinking tea), which has its roots in travellers on the ancient Silk Road needing a place to rest. Thus teahouses were established along the roadside. Rural farmers, exhausted after working hard in the fields, would also go to teahouses for a relaxing afternoon of tea. At first, it was considered inappropriate to combine tea with food, because people believed it would lead to excessive weight gain. People later discovered that tea can aid in digestion, so teahouse owners began adding various snacks.

I’ll be expecting reviews from you guys once you come out of the food coma!!

Dude ~ nothing in the picture for this post is allowed, as is, for paleo! Boo.

… all except for the tea. And yes, you could pick the goodness from the rice/flour wrapping. I guess you could also munch on the round bamboo holders.

Boo, I agree…the bamboo holders aren’t bad if you slather on the chili sauce…since soy sauce isn’t Paleo either!! =( sigh
