In the past, I’ve touched on why cholesterol is necessary to your diet and Sean recently posted on the low-fat craze created by Ancel Keys. The ensuing hysteria gained traction as the concept that “fat = evil” became part of the Conventional Wisdom lexicon. Our food industry was all too eager to meet this newly created demand for artificially removed or lowered fat consumables.

About a year ago, CrossFit Balboa linked to a blog that spoke about these fake foods. In the first installment of “Real Foods Take On Fake Foods“, they wrote about butter, bacon and eggs. One of the portions of the article that stuck with me the most was about the creation called turkey bacon:

Close your eyes and you can imagine slicing into a pig and finding some uncured bacon right there for the taking. Now imagine cutting into a turkey and finding anything resembling a strip of bacon. In fact, just try to imagine which part of the turkey your meat is coming from. Yeah, I’m still trying to imagine it too.

I’ll leave you with another clip from the Fat Head movie. This time the subject is Ancel Keys and the low-fat craze in “Big Fat Lies”:
