As Many Hikes as Possible
posted by: ruth
Zion National Park. Doing it in one day is not remotely possible but we tried to fit as much in as we could.
It’s breathtakingly beautiful out here but for a girl who’s been spoiled by balmy 77 degree beach weather, the desert sun is kicking my butt!
This morning we rented canyoneering shoes and hiked the Narrows, a beautiful gorge cut by the Virgin River. Most of the hike was done wading, sloshing, and slipping in the water which kept us entertained and cool.
In the evening we took a drive through Zion’s mile long tunnel and hiked up to the Canyon Overlook which offered gorgeous views of the park as the sun set!
A word on staying at B&B’s and staying relatively paleo: we didn’t want our hostess to waste food so we advised her that we didn’t eat bread or pancakes. This launched into a rather drawn out convo about a book she read that told her animal proteins were evil and to subsist on beans and grains. Note to self: in the future, just claim an allergy!
Happy Independence Day everyone!

The photo was taken at the Narrows but it’s not mine! It’s courtesy of zionnationalpark.com but I couldn’t put that caption up from my wordpress app! Had a blast and if anyone hasn’t seen The Lion King yet, go buy tickets!!! It was amazing!
