One more pointer I found is to throw the ball directly at the target (in stead of arcing it to the target).

If you arc it to the target, it tends to drop straight down in front of you, too close to the wall. If you throw it directly at the target on the wall, in a straight line, it tends to bounce off the wall in a nice little arc directly into a good receiving position.

Of course, you have to throw it with the right amount of oomph, too little & it drops in front, too much and you get hit in the face :P
