Ruth spent most of her adult years believing that she had a handle on fitness. That is, until she was introduced to CrossFit. Since she drank the Kool-Aid, she has dedicated her life to rescuing people from the dredges of bicep curls and bad diets. Her training background includes being a Physical Trainer as well as an Arrest and Control Instructor at the Los Angeles Police Academy. Recently she’s been focusing her training on Olympic weightlifting and hopes to compete in Nationals soon.
When not at the gym, Ruth can be found rock climbing in Malibu, surfing in San Onofre, or shooting rifles in the desert. Just as she thought, CrossFit has exponentially improved her performance in all the above activities.
Aside from baby koalas, puppies, and a perfect margarita, nothing brings a tear to her eyes like seeing people attain Personal Records: be it a kipping pull-up, a 2x body weight deadlift, or the mental victory of knowing they can push themselves much harder than ever before.

Sean’s commitment to fitness began at an early age when he played a wide array of sports including soccer, basketball, and football. His athletic prowess afforded him the opportunity to play and coach collegiate football at the United States Air Force Academy and be a part of a team ranked as high as 15th in national polls. Thanks to his football endeavors, Sean has a healthy background in Olympic weightlifting and Powerlifting, and this is what initially attracted him to CrossFit. Sean experienced first-hand how these lifts improve overall fitness and athleticism and enjoys helping others attain similar results.
Sean was introduced to CrossFit in May 2008, but, like many, was skeptical about its effectiveness. As he incorporated CrossFit into his workouts Sean discovered that the CrossFit workouts gave him better results than his previous workouts and the emphasis on functional movements just made sense! Amazed at the results CrossFit produced in him, Sean dove headfirst into coaching and received his CrossFit Level 1 certification in September 2009. Sean enjoys competing in individual and team CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting competitions.
Sean holds a B.S. in Behavioral Science with an emphasis on Counseling and Human Development from the United States Air Force Academy, and a M.A. in Management and Leadership from Webster University.

Marcus has made it a priority to study all aspects of fitness — focusing on powerlifting, to rehabilitative stretching and nutrition.
Having experimented with different diets throughout his life, from vegan to vegetarian, Marcus has personally determined that a Paleo diet is the best template for athletic performance. As our resident conscience, Marcus talks us all out of bad food choices even when he isn’t with us. We just feel the nagging judgment in the back of our heads and know that it’s him.
Another one of Marcus’ specialties is research aka Google-fu. This is why he is commonly called “Marcuspedia”. It’s well known in the gym that if you have a question that needs an answer, Marcus will find it, along with twenty other links that support or refute the answer! But, what is truly awe-inspiring is that Marcus doesn’t just share knowledge, he inspires us all to seek it tirelessly.
Avelyne Malonzo | Trainer
avelyne@crossfitintrepid.com | 310.283.4335

CrossFit Level I Trainer
Before CrossFit, the extent of Avelyne’s exercise regiment consisted of running at the beach, taking spinning classes, kickboxing, and wandering around a globo gym in a state of confusion at all of the bulky machines. That was until February 2008 when she was introduced to CF at a Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Since then, she’s obtained her CF Level 1 Certification, competed at NLP and most recently, competed in her first Oly Lifting Meet.
An “expert” traveller, she typically hops around the country in search of heavenly BBQ and live country music. When not at Intrepid, she enjoys trying out new Paleo recipes, hiking the Malibu trails, roller skating on the strand and rooting for the Lakers.
