Ruth spent most of her adult years believing that she had a handle on fitness. That is, until she was introduced to CrossFit. Since she drank the Kool-Aid, she has dedicated her life to rescuing people from the dredges of bicep curls and bad diets. Her training background includes being a Physical Trainer as well as an Arrest and Control Instructor at the Los Angeles Police Academy. Recently she’s been focusing her training on Olympic weightlifting and hopes to compete in Nationals soon.

When not at the gym, Ruth can be found rock climbing in Malibu, surfing in San Onofre, or shooting rifles in the desert. Just as she thought, CrossFit has exponentially improved her performance in all the above activities.

Aside from baby koalas, puppies, and a perfect margarita, nothing brings a tear to her eyes like seeing people attain Personal Records: be it a kipping pull-up, a 2x body weight deadlift, or the mental victory of knowing they can push themselves much harder than ever before.

Sean’s commitment to fitness began at an early age playing a wide array of sports including soccer, basketball, and football. His athletic prowess afforded him the opportunity to play and coach collegiate football at the United States Air Force Academy and the honor of playing on a team ranked as high as 15th in national polls. Thanks to his football endeavors and knowledgeable strength coaches, Sean has a healthy background in Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. Sean experienced first-hand how these modalities improve overall fitness and athleticism and enjoys “paying it forward” helping others achieve their health, fitness, and sports goals. Sean’s training background also includes being a Physical Training Leader in the United States Air Force for six years. Sean currently competes in individual and team CrossFit compeititions and Olympic Weightlifting.

Sean holds a B.S. in Behavioral Sciences with an emphasis on Counseling and Human Development from the United States Air Force Academy, and a M.A. in Management and Leadership from Webster University.

Marcus has made it a priority to study all aspects of fitness — focusing on powerlifting, to rehabilitative stretching and nutrition.

Having experimented with different diets throughout his life, from vegan to vegetarian, Marcus has personally determined that a Paleo diet is the best template for athletic performance. As our resident conscience, Marcus talks us all out of bad food choices even when he isn’t with us. We just feel the nagging judgment in the back of our heads and know that it’s him.

Another one of Marcus’ specialties is research aka Google-fu. This is why he is commonly called “Marcuspedia”. It’s well known in the gym that if you have a question that needs an answer, Marcus will find it, along with twenty other links that support or refute the answer! But, what is truly awe-inspiring is that Marcus doesn’t just share knowledge, he inspires us all to seek it tirelessly.

Before CrossFit, the extent of Avelyne’s exercise regiment consisted of running at the beach, taking spinning classes, kickboxing, and wandering around a globo gym in a state of confusion at all of the bulky machines. That was until February 2008 when she was introduced to CF at a Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Since then, she’s obtained her CF Level 1 Certification, competed at NLP and most recently, competed in her first Oly Lifting Meet.

An “expert” traveller, she typically hops around the country in search of heavenly BBQ and live country music. When not at Intrepid, she enjoys trying out new Paleo recipes, hiking the Malibu trails, roller skating on the strand and rooting for the Lakers.

Jacob has always had a passion for sports and fitness since a young age. He grew up playing soccer, basketball, and baseball and enjoyed the occasional mile run. Throughout high school and college running became his main focus and he was successful in breaking personal records every year.

After graduating, Jacob joined 24 Hour Fitness and soon found that doing the same workouts week after week was no longer letting him make gains. Around the same time he was approached by his brother asking him to do a charity workout at a CrossFit gym. Seeing that Jacob can’t say no to competition he happily agreed to give it a go.

Ever since joining Intrepid he hasn’t looked back. In his time at Intrepid he obtained his Level 1 Certification and has found a new passion to help others attain their athletic/fitness goals. Whether it is in the gym or on the soccer field he enjoys watching others succeed.

Holley has always led an active lifestyle, mainly through playing in the yard with her younger siblings or participating in organized sports. She taught herself to jump rope at the age of 4 and eventually went on to be a jump rope instructor. She tried a variety of sports growing up and was competitive in golf and diving and won NDA Nationals with her high school dance team in 2004. During her time at Purdue as an engineering student, school work took up most of her time, but she made time to stay active by playing a variety of intramural sports, with her favorite being flag football.

Once she moved to California for her job at SpaceX, she found it harder to keep up with her active lifestyle. In August 2010, she came across Intrepid on a jog, stopped in the next day for a workout, and was immediately hooked. She went on to participate in many CrossFit competitions and an Olympic weightlifting meet. CrossFit changed her outlook on fitness and strength and gave her a new perception of how a healthy woman’s body should look, strong! The positive community atmosphere, top notch coaching, day-to-day variety, and commitment to both physical and psychological health inspired her to get more involved and become a trainer. While Holley loves finding ways to constantly push herself, she finds the most reward in helping others succeed at meeting their goals.

Alia has always had a passion for being active and having fun. She has a variety of sports in her background including soccer, Muay Thai, Aikido, Rugby, SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard), running, long distance bicycling and surfing. Her first taste in competitive sports was discovered in high school when she joined a local rowing club. She continued with with the masters team through her early college years which led to joining a dragon boat team. She was then introduced to triathlons and learned two things; you can fall madly in love more than once and that she did well when it came to multi sport competitions.

In early 2008 she discovered CrossFit shortly after moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Visual Effects and Animation. She was looking for something more mentally challenging than the daily globogym routine and with more physical variety than a team sport could offer. CrossFit has opened up a new world for her. It made a change in her life like no sport or activity had done before. Seeing the changes in herself since starting CrossFit has ignited a fire in her that drove her to obtain her level 1 certificate so that she could spread the inspiration to others. Proving that athletes are more capable than they believe is her goal.
