It’s finally happening. It started with the slow food movement, to local foods and now whole foods (not the expensive grocery store). The ever familiar to CrossFitters, Paleolithic style of eating whole foods is slowly making its way into mainstream. Now there’s a local festival to celebrate it! A Taste of Paleo Festival is the first of it’s kind that I have heard of. Luckily for us, it’s local. August 18th 12pm-4pm in Huntington Beach. Tickets for the event are on presale for $10 until the 1st, after which they will be $15.

“Gather at the first annual Taste of Paleo. The one and only paleolithic food festival to be held Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Newland Barn, located in Huntington Beach, CA. Taste of Paleo is the first ever paleolithic (aka Caveman diet) food tasting festival of its kind, providing an environment in which members of the paleo community come together to celebrate the paleo lifestyle and enjoy an event like no other. Imagine walking from booth to booth, sampling tasty paleo creations, sipping on a glass of beer or wine (okay not so paleo, but we’re here for a good time!), all while enjoying the warm summer breezes from a historic location in sunny So Cal. The event wouldn’t be complete without a fierce competition between competing chefs, as they strive to win the judges’ vote, along with the cash purse awarded to our Taste of Paleo chef!”

I don’t know what to expect in 4 hours, I know that the venue isn’t that big but it’s a good start. I would compare this to the CF Games. It started with a $500 purse in the late nineties and now individual athletes take home $275,000! This could be big. I encourage you guys to make a mini day trip out of this and car pool if you can. Maybe not so much with the beer and wine but I’m sure there will be plenty of coconut water around.

On a side note. If you and your family are planning to go out to eat today, please go to the Counter in El Segundo. CrossFit Zen (a nonprofit 501(c)3 box from Manhattan Beach) is having a fundraiser. All you have to do is be hungry, print out the flyer found here and present it to your server at the time of your meal or, save trees and tell your server that you want to participate in the CrossFit Zen fundraiser. CrossFit Zen’s work with local teens at various South Bay high schools is high quality and a great service to the community. Show some community love and support.
