Today we have a special guest post from the lovely Mrs. Champagne, aka WodKilla.

In the spirit of Sunday recipe posts, I decided to share the following recipe for the Quintessential Intrepid:

1. Take equal parts of:

- Passion

- Enthusiasm

- Encouragement

- Determination

- Friendliness

2. Mix it all together, bake at 230 degrees, and you get Scott, a model example of an Intrepid athlete (and, coincidentally, the most incredible person I know).

Scott is just as passionate and enthusiastic about CrossFit now, after 3+ years of CrossFitting, as he was the day he started.   I remember standing in the kitchen with him after his first workouts in April of 2009, as he excitedly told me every movement he did while my eyes glazed over because I had no idea what a snatch, clean, or jerk was.  He’d tell me about the weights he used and the metcons he did.  I had no idea what he was talking about half the time, but I loved that he loved it and was so passionate about it.  He wants to get everything he can that has to do with CrossFit (as we know by his extensive shoe wardrobe :-) ).

Scott loves CrossFit and the Intrepid community and hopes to continue indefinitely.  I am so grateful that Scott got me into CrossFit. We can’t imagine our life without it and often talk about CrossFitting together when we’re old.   After my appendix ruptured, Scott took me on walks around the surgical ward.  Hunched over, rolling my IV alongside me with one hand, and holding on to Scott with the other I said, “This is what it’s going to be like when we’re old.”  I much prefer thinking about us being badass CrossFitters than walking around with IVs next to us!

Scott is one of the first people to introduce himself to a new face, not because he dislikes burpees, but because he is just a genuinely nice, friendly guy.  He is always there to cheer people on and encourage them.  When I don’t want to come in because we’re doing snatch or overhead squat, he tells me that’s exactly when I SHOULD go in so I can work on those things.

It has been amazing to witness Scott’s gains.  His greatest CF accomplishment was getting his first pull-up.  He had never gotten a pull-up in his entire life and was so thrilled to finally get one.  Three weeks ago, Scott had an impromptu pull-up challenge with his friend Hans and got 10 in a row!!  A few days later, he does Murph with NO BANDS!!!  Then, there’s double unders….a couple of weeks ago, he did a WOD where he did all of the double unders (120 of them!).   It took him longer to finish, but he was determined to do it, and he did.  Now he does the prescribed number of dubs in the workouts.  As we know from yesterday’s post, Scott PR’ed twice this week with his backsquat and chinups.  He continues to grow and improve every week.

Happy Birthday Scott!  I am so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. Thank you for being the most amazing friend and husband.  I hope this year is your best year yet.  And if it’s not, you’re doing something wrong!!   I love you!!

We’d also like to wish Ashley (camera shy!) a very Happy Birthday today as well!  In the month that she’s been here, she’s already busted out a few dubs on her very first try!  Jake where have you been hiding her???

Happy Birthday Scott! What a great birthday post, Michelle! I see a lot of guest posts in your future as well!

Also a happy birthday to Ashley! I still remember seeing her first workout 2 years ago (Fight Gone Bad) and thinking, “this girl has chops!” and we come full circle to yesterday when she encounters FGB again right after starting with us. Well done Ashley!

Happy birthday Scott! Any man that can entertain a 3 1/2 month old baby girl while her parents are suffering through FGB has to be a solid guy. You were a natural with Maya. She and Karma were wondering when they could have a sleep over at Scott and Michelle’s house! :) Thanks again!

Happy birthday Ashely! It was nice to meet you yesterday. Have a great day.

Thanks for all the kind birthday wishes. I love everyone in the Intrepid Family. You are all inspiring in your own way, and are the reason I’ve stuck with and still love Crossfit after 3+ years.

Date Night, Maya and Karma are always welcome for a sleep over. I’m sure Michelle would happily volunteer to babysit and I’ve welcome the chance to hold Maya when I wasn’t dripping in sweat trying not to mess up her pretty outfit.

Happy Birthday Ashley! We’re all psyched to welcome you into the family.

Happy Burthday Scott! I think I was at that first wod in 2009 Michelle mentioned! It has been wonderful to watch your gains, in both crossfit and life. Glad I convinced you to buy Michelle a ring at the Dodger game.

Speaking of the dodger game, that was the first day I met Ashley! And I finally realize why Jake hid her for so many years, he was afraid we’d not only like her more, but she’d beat him at the gym!! Your competitive nature fits in perfectly with all of us, glad to have you! happy birthday!!
