Edit: Since Jake wrote this post, the schedule has been updated and I will be teaching class at 9:30 on both Friday and Saturday. Grab your spots while they last! -Marcus

With the 4th of July around the corner and one class open during the holiday as well as a closed gym for the following days it may be tough to fit in a workout. Don’t worry though, since summer is here and the weather is great there are a couple of events taking place over the 4th of July weekend. If you live down in the South Bay there happens to be a 5k in Redondo Beach at the Village Runner. This will be the 20th anniversary of this race. Like most races around here you can choose to run or walk the 5k. If you feel like bringing the whole family there will be a “kids dash” that the youngsters can participate in. It will most likely be a 1k. The 5k starts at 8am and only costs $35. The kids dash is $30 and starts at 9:30. For the 5k run the top 3 overall finishers for male and female have a shot at taking home a cash prize.

Just up the coast in Santa Monica the city is hosting the Red, White, and Blue races. What is especially unique about this race is not only the 5k offered, but the 10k, 15k, half marathon, and marathon are also options. The course is easy to follow seeing that it consists of one 5k loop. The races start at 6:15 in the morning with the marathon starting first. This event also takes place on the 4th.

On Saturday the 6th, Santa Monica also has their annual Liberty Run. The course is the exact same as the Red, White, and Blue run. The same distances are offered except for the marathon. The races will start at 7am.

Also on the 6th down in Long Beach, near Belmont Shores, the Patriot 5k/10k will be taking place. This race looks to be selling out quick, most likely due to the inexpensive prices. The 5k is only $20 and the 10k is $25. The sponsors of the race were kind enough to offer free parking for the participants and their families. The course is pretty simple because it is out and back so there shouldn’t be any confusion among the runners. This race also starts at 7 in the morning.

As you can see even though the gym is closed for a couple of days there are plenty of options to stay active over the holiday weekend. If all else fails, doing a body weight WOD is also simple to do.
