This past week as I was prepping to hit the road again, I felt the need for something different.  I needed some new flavors in my life.  I was walking through Sprouts browsing the marinades and rubs when I saw a bottle of lemon and garlic marinade/sauce.  Lemon and garlic, two very simple, very basic ingredients and yet so ridiculously yummy.  Why have I never thought to try these two together before?  I’ve had lemon pepper and garlic pepper and other variations but never lemon and garlic and yet these two ingredients are staples that I always have in my kitchen!  Needless to say, I had a D’oh! moment.

Back in my lab, I set to work.  I started with chicken breasts.  Mixed some lemon juice with olive oil, crushed garlic, parsley and a dash or two of chili powder (I apologize…in the future I will remember to write down my exact measurements).  I let that marinate in the fridge for half a day and threw it in a pan later that night.  Yummy!!!

Then I moved on to some veggies, yellow squash and red bell peppers.  I brushed the lemon garlic mixture on both veggies and threw those on the grill.  Oh so good!  It was exactly what I needed to get me out of my rut!  So, moral of the story here kids, try new things but don’t forget your basic staples to help provide new inspiration in your cooking adventures.
