Yay Burpees!

A few weeks back I posted that the 2012 CrossFit Open was close at hand, well this past Wednesday marked the beginning of the first week.  For those unfamiliar with the CrossFit Open think of it as the first step towards competing in the CrossFit Games held in July nearby at th Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.  In order to make the claim that the CrossFit Games’ champions hold the title of the “fittest on planet Earth”, CrossFit wanted anyone on planet Earth to be eligible if they can afford the $20 entry fee, are able to connect to the internet, and have access to basic gym equipment.  Upon signing up athletes are placed in their respective region depending on their location.  Each week for six consecutive weeks a workout will be announced and all athletes registered will be required to perform the workout either at a CrossFit affiliate that has opted-in for that specific week or submit the video of their workout online.  The top 60 competitors in each region will move on to compete at the Regionals competition where the top few finishers from every Regionals will converge to LA in July for the CrossFit Games.

Plan on completing the respective CrossFit Open workout each Friday after they are announced as the Workout of the Day (WOD), so you have some incentive to register yourself into the Crossfit Open.  Don’t hem and haw for too long because sign-ups close at 5pm Pacific time this Sunday.  Register here!

For those interested more in being eligible for Team Intrepid here’s the scoop:

Team athletes will complete the five Open workouts like individual competitors. If an athlete chooses to register with a team, the athlete can still compete in the individual competition at the Regional level, if they qualify. A team’s top three male and female scores in the week’s workout will contribute to the team’s standings.  At the conclusion of the Open, the top 30 teams in each Region will advance to Regionals. A team’s Regional roster must draw from the group of athletes that represented it during the Open. Teams are comprised of three men and three women.  Over the course of three days, six team members will complete workouts together. Sometimes, only two members will do the workout, sometimes four, sometimes all six. No more than three teams will advance to the CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup.  When you register put Intrepid as your affiliate and you’ll be eligible should our top scores qualify us.  Best of luck on week 1 everyone!
