Last night, 60 Minutes ran a piece featuring Robert Lustig, MD who became widely known for his lecture available on YouTube called “Sugar: The Bitter Truth“. (Warning: that lecture is close to 90 minutes long.)

In comparison, the 60 Minutes piece weighs in just under 15 minutes and I think is well worth your time. Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN discusses a number of fairly recent revelations in the scientific community when it comes to sugar consumption. Unlike that infamous “red meat is bad” study that was played to death in the media, in the clip you will see a properly controlled study to measure the impact of nutrition on biomarkers in humans.

The story also speaks briefly on the rush to lower dietary fat in the 1970′s and how little it did to curb any of society’s illnesses. Many people are unaware of how many sneaky ways sugar was added into food to replace the flavor that was lost when the fat was taken out.

If the whole paleo/primal thing still seems too “tough” and you find yourself skipping over the posts on nutrition, take a quick 15 minutes of your day to watch the video below. It might just save a life!

Special thanks to Holley for making me aware of the segment and to Mike K. for posting the link on Facebook!
