I know you’ve all felt the frustration from failing. Failing a lift, failing double unders, failing at muscle ups. It’s never fun to fail. We feel defeated, like we’ve succumbed to our weaknesses. Sometimes it may even make you angry or maybe it makes you feel like wod shopping the next time you see that despised movement in a workout.

In the world of CrossFit, we place a big emphasis on our personal bests. And why shouldn’t we? They are huge accomplishments. They tell us that we have reached a goal or shaved a few seconds off our (insert miserable Girl/Hero WOD here) time. It makes us feel great that our hard work has finally paid off.

So where does failure come into play? It’s a key indicator of how far we have come. Where as two months ago, you FAILED at a body weight deadlift and now you’re able to deadlift your BW plus 10# for 5 reps. So don’t look at failing as time wasted, look at it as a learning tool. Use that failure as a stepping stone to progress and lunge forward. As you start your week off in the gym tomorrow, look back to 2 or 3 months ago in your books and see where you were failing. Then, skip ahead to present day and see how far you have come. What have you achieved through failure?
