This last Saturday, Sean and I took a High Flying Trapeze class at Hollywood Aerial Arts in Inglewood. It was a two hour class where we each had 6 runs on the trapeze. Our first pass was a warm up swing where we soon learned that we were inadvertently trying to substitute strength for technique….very unsuccessfully. We were kipping from the shoulders (a la pull up) instead of our hips. I believed Ray (the instructor) called us big balls of muscle and chastised us for being tight and awkward.

Before we went up on the second pass, one of the women in the class said that we would probably be doing back tucks as a dismount. After we laughed and laughed we realized she wasn’t kidding…and the terror set in. However, we soon realized Ray was Yoda and IF we listened to every cue, it was all good!

The experience was amazing: new tricks, terror, adrenaline, giddiness, all rolled into one. Keeping in line with ‘trying new sports’ and staying constantly varied, we found a fun new activity for anyone in the gym who is interested.

We’ll be looking to book a private class with them the second weekend of July (most likely) and will need 8-10 people to sign up. So, if you’re interested, post to comments. A two hour session will cost $400 ($50/ea for 8 and $40/a for 10).
