Anna rockin the burpees during Burrito

Last Sunday I posted about the negative effects of conventional soaps. Today we’ll delve deeper into alternative hygiene products:  deodorant and lotion.  Millions of dollars are spent every year on deodorant/antiperspirant ads depicting some poor schmuck in a stressful office meeting with wet pits looking miserable.   No one wants sweaty, stinky pits, but one has to consider the facts:

Deodorant: Most of the popular sticks also double as antiperspirants, often containing aluminum, which has been linked to cancer (mainly breast), when absorbed into the skin.   While Mark’s Daily Apple says that this would not be an issue unless you’re “snacking on bars of Old Spice,”  it does have an impact when applied on freshly shaven skin.   Try to wait a full day after shaving before applying conventional deodorant or look for aluminum-free, naturally scented (unscented is better) deodorants or try a homemade option (I’ll guinea pig this in the near future).  Skin Deep lists some options with little to no ill effects, including natural stone deodorants.

Lotion: Most lotions contain phthalates as a result of the artificial fragrances.  Look for 100% natural extracts or essential oils if you need perfumy lotions. Or, even better, use coconut or almond oil as a moisturizer and add a stick of cinnamon or vanilla bean for a hint of spice (a drop or two of citrus essential oil also will do the trick). I mixed coconut oil with coarse sea salt and apply it in the shower. It’s quick and effective, and I don’t feel greasy afterwards. So far, I’m thrilled with the results!

I’m assuming this picture is my punishment for doing singles on Friday? I said I’m sorry!!! And if Scott #1 questioned his photo on the soap day, what should I think of mine on the deoderant day??

Didn’t we do enough pullups Saturday? 90 more!

Dang it, Anna, I was posting this pic as an example of a good burpee! Nice upright body at the top!! I didn’t put an asterisk on the caption, did I? ;)

LOL, I have to stop posting photos of people on the hygiene posts…sigh.

And thanks a lot for doing the math on the pull ups. I was hoping the more math challenged folks wouldn’t catch on.

You’re lucky that’s all there is, considering we watched the games on Sunday and got SO MUCH inspiration for future WODs!

-5 points on Anna’s burpee. I see no space between her shoes and the ground. Tisk Tisk Tisk:)

Actually, Anna did have space but that mid air picture was super blurry and the framing was off. This is the snap after she landed.

Thank you Alia! I was going to qualify that on my first post, but I didn’t expect all the nay-sayers to jump in like vultures! I DO applaud all your eagle eyes and attentions to detail, however, and will be sure to return the favor today in the WOD!

Wow! Ruth is getting VICIOUS with these pictures and headlines.

I’m pretty sure Brian needs to take a screenshot of this headline and picture. Maybe post it on Anna’s Facebook wall….or email it to a select group of childhood friends….or maybe just save it for the right moment.

Awesome day at The Games yesterday! Can’t believe the leader going into the final men’s event lost because he couldn’t climb rope!! Great to see Speiler jump up to the podium. And great to see a strong CFI contingent cheering away.
