The Control Group Strikes Again (that's not a vitamin water!!)

The September Cup Challenge closed out with PRs around for all who participated.  I’m so very proud of each and every one of you for putting so much effort into your lifts this last month.  As you can see from Friday’s post, there will be a winner for every weight class, but today I wanted to highlight our lifters who had the best total relative to their body weight:

Best female:  Anna, BW: 116.5# (48kg class),  with a total of 176# lifted.

Best male:  Brian, BW 185.5# (85kg class), with a total of 360# lifted.

Nice job, AGAIN, Control Group! Alia and Steph came in right behind Anna and Jake and Jason followed Brian.

And now, for the October Challenge (drum roll).  I had another challenge in mind, but his one was suggested by a couple of members and I think it has some merit.  This month we will be attacking the 5k run.  There will be an overall male/female winner, but also a spot for the athlete with the most improved time.   Before the grumbling begins, however, I want to be clear that there will not be As Many Runs As Possible this month.  We will NOT run more to run better.

What we will do is skills and drills work as well as a good amount of interval training.  Our strength training will resume as usual and we’ll try to keep up on some Oly skills so your snatch and C&J PRs keep climbing.    Let me be clear about this:  as soon as I hear about some of you (Mike) logging lots of lunchtime runs and over-training for this challenge, I’ll change it to As Many Wallballs As Possible in 1 Hour!

In all seriousness though, we have heard of people coming back the week after they train marathons and PR in their deadlifts. Since we work hard to attain a general physical preparedness, a 5k is quite the legitimate challenge and we hope that dedicating a month to working on running will benefit us all in the long run (no pun intended).
