On August 6th, 2011, 31 of America’s bravest warriors gave their lives in defense of our freedom. Their names were announced five days following the incident and can be seen here. The incident was the deadliest single attack on U.S. forces in Afghanistan and the casualties included 17 Navy SEALs, two Navy EOD Technicians, three Naval Special Warfare Combat Support Sailors, two Army Aviators, three Army Aircrewmen, three Air Force Special Tactics Operators, and one Military Working Dog.

These men were sons, brothers, husbands, fathers, and friends. Not only do we thank them for their service and sacrifice, but we thank those that love them for the sacrifice they have made as well.

The 31 Americans were not the only ones that died as heroes that day. While the funds raised through the 31Heroes event will benefit the families of the men listed above, we cannot forget the sacrifice of our Afghan comrades. Seven Afghan commandos and one Afghan interpreter were also killed in action and we cannot look past their sacrifice. They too are heroes and we thank them and honor them and their families.

On Saturday, September 3rd CrossFit Intrepid will be a part of the 31 Heroes event. 100% of the funds raised will benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation and similar organizations as well as the surviving family members of the soldiers. The workout has not been finalized yet but should be soon, and will be on the site above as well as their Facebook page. Go to this site to register for $31 or simply go here to donate. T-shirts will be sent to gym and we’ll distribute them when they get in.

On a similar note, the sixth installment of the annual Fight Gone Bad fundraising workout is coming up on Saturday, September 17th. Funds raised will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, CrossFit Kids, and Camp Patriot. To learn more about what the Fight Gone Bad fundraising event is exactly, check out the Frequently Asked Questions located here or our posts from previous events FGB5 or FGB4. Registration can be accomplished here, and be sure to join team CrossFit Intrepid.
